Questions about the research, a figure you want to check, a correction, or your own data — all welcome. One of us reads every message and replies.

hello@understandingbereavement.org

Please include the page address and enough detail for us to understand your question. Please do not send medical records or other sensitive personal information.

We cannot offer bereavement support. If you are grieving and need to talk to someone, the organisations listed under where to find support can help, and Samaritans are free to call on 116 123 in the UK and Ireland, day or night.

Charities, services, journalists and researchers

Everything in the research library is free to read, cite, quote and reuse, and you do not need our permission. Things we are glad to do:

  • Send you the sources behind any figure, if the citation on the page is not enough.
  • Cut the data a different way — by nation, age group or region — where the published sources allow it.
  • Correct something. If a number here is wrong or out of date, tell us and we will fix it and say what changed.
  • Tell us what is missing. If there is a gap in the evidence about the children and families you work with, we would rather hear it than guess.

How this site is paid for

We are a commercial business rather than a charity. Referral fees from life insurance enquiries pay for the research and the hosting; the note at the foot of every page, and our about page, set out exactly how. No insurer or broker has any say in what the research says.

Stopping contact, or exercising a data right

If you made a life insurance enquiry, email the address above with the name and telephone number you used, so we can find your record. The privacy notice explains what we hold, how long for and what you can ask us to do with it.
