A free Apple Watch with Vitality life insurance is not quite free: on Vitality's offer page as archived on 1 August 2026, the watch comes with a qualifying life plan, but you pay for it in monthly instalments on a credit agreement, and the instalments shrink as you earn activity points. Offers like this change, so read the current terms alongside the cover itself. Gadget aside, the cover deserves a look of its own: an FCA-authorised broker can phone and weigh the policy up, free of charge, once the form on this page holds your details.

What does the Apple Watch offer with Vitality life insurance include?

Vitality's Apple Watch offer page, as archived on 1 August 2026, describes a deal for people who buy a qualifying health or life plan. You choose an Apple Watch Series 11 or an Apple Watch SE 3, pay an upfront amount, and then pay a monthly sum that depends on how active you have been.

The upfront cost depends on the model and size you pick. Vitality gives the range as "from £9 to £139 upfront" for the Series 11 and "£1 to £101 upfront" for the SE 3, with recommended retail prices from £369 and £219. Apple Watch Ultra is not part of the offer, and it is not available to people living in the Channel Islands.

The watch is not handed over as a gift. Vitality says it offers it "on a 40-month, 0% APR consumer credit agreement with 36 monthly Direct Debits through Novuna Personal Finance", and that this is "subject to a satisfactory credit check". Checking eligibility leaves a soft search on your credit file that other lenders cannot see.

That makes the offer closer to a finance deal attached to a life plan than to a reward. Vitality is acting as a credit broker only, and Novuna is the lender. You have to be 18 or over, because the watch comes through a consumer credit agreement.

Which life plans qualify, and what do you have to pay?

A Vitality life plan qualifies only if it carries Vitality Plus benefits. Vitality's wording is that "the total premiums of all life plans of which you are a member must be at least £45 per month, excluding any fees paid for Vitality Plus".

The minimums sit in a footnote. You need "a minimum monthly premium of £45 for single plans, or £60 for joint plans", plus £5.50 per adult, per month for Vitality Plus. So the watch can pull you towards a larger premium than you might have chosen on cover alone, and the Plus fee is an extra monthly cost on top of the premium.

A few other conditions on the same page are easy to miss:

  • On a joint plan, only one Apple Watch is available across all the adults, and only one of them can hold the Novuna agreement. The other adult would need a separate qualifying plan in their own name to apply as well.
  • Members who have already had the offer are not eligible for the from-£9 deal, though a further watch is possible on different upfront and monthly amounts.
  • Health plans have their own qualifying rules, which this page does not cover.

What a premium actually is for your age, health and the cover you want is something only a quote can show. A broker phoning you back after you use the quote form can explain how a Vitality plan would be priced and whether Vitality Plus would apply, at no charge.

How do activity points change what you pay each month?

Vitality sets the monthly watch payment by the activity points you earn in that month. Its table links points to steps: 160 points is "Min 12,500 steps a day, 5x a week", and 40 points is "Min 10,000 steps a day, 2x a week". Walking, running, swimming and dancing are all named as ways to earn points.

Activity points in the monthSeries 11 paymentSE 3 payment
0 to 39£10£6
40£7.50£4.50
80£5£3
120£2.50£1.50
160£0£0

Vitality's own summary is that if you do not stay active, you will pay between £0 and £10 a month for the Series 11 and between £0 and £6 for the SE 3. The SE 3 example on the same page gives the bands as ranges, for example 40 to 79 points at £4.50, so each row shows the lowest point total in its band. One answer on that page, though, says you need "over 40 points" in a month to start earning money off, which does not sit easily with a table that cuts the payment at exactly 40. Which threshold applies today is worth settling before you count on the lower payment, and it is a fair question to raise when the broker rings.

Two things follow. A month in the lowest band, 0 to 39 points on the table, means the full payment: £10 for the Series 11 or £6 for the SE 3. And because each month's payment follows that month's points, what the watch costs you in total is only known once the agreement has run.

What happens to the watch payments if you cancel the life plan?

The archived page deals with two kinds of cancelling. If you change your mind about the watch itself, you can cancel up to 14 days after delivery, and Vitality says it will refund the initial upfront payment as long as the device is still in brand new condition.

Cancelling the life plan is different. Vitality says that if you cancel the plan after the 14-day cooling-off period, and before the final watch payment is due, "your credit agreement with Novuna will continue under the terms of that agreement". In other words, ending the life cover does not end the finance: what you pay from then on is set by the Novuna agreement's own terms.

That matters because a life policy is usually something you keep for years, while the watch agreement runs for 40 months. If your circumstances change, our page on what happens when you cancel life insurance covers the policy side, and cancelling a policy that is in trust is a separate question.

The detail beyond that, such as what happens to the Vitality contribution to your payments after a cancellation, or what a switch to another insurer does to the agreement, sits in Vitality's separate Apple Watch terms and conditions. Ask Vitality for those in writing before you buy; the broker who rings you can say which of these points to raise with the insurer.

Can you get a Garmin, Oura or other watch instead?

The Apple Watch is the device this Vitality offer is built around, for health and life plans alike. The same archived page mentions discounts on Fitbit, Garmin, Polar and Samsung trackers among its rewards, and lists Garmin among its popular reward partners. That is a brand discount among the rewards, which is a different thing from a watch paid for through monthly instalments.

If the plan is the aim, compare the cover first and look at the gadget afterwards. For the Oura ring, or for how a Garmin discount works and whether it needs Vitality Plus on a life plan, raise it at the broker's call-back and find out what Vitality currently offers.

Our guide to discounts, gift cards and rewards on life insurance shows how other insurers handle incentives, and Vitality's gym discounts have their own page.

Should a watch affect which life insurance you choose?

The cover is what you are buying. Premium, amount, length, health questions and who is paid on a claim all matter far more over the life of a policy than a device. Our overview of Vitality life cover covers the insurer and its plans, and the cost and quotes guide explains what moves a premium.

Three questions can keep the offer in proportion: would you choose this premium and Vitality Plus without the watch, would you keep paying for the plan for as long as the cover is needed, and could you carry the instalments if you stopped earning points or ended the plan? If the answer to all three is yes, the watch is a bonus. If not, it is a reason to look again.

Pricing that reflects who you are needs a conversation. Request a broker's call-back through the form, which is free, and ask about insurers whose cover has no watch attached.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Apple Watch with Vitality life insurance really free?

Not outright. On the terms Vitality published in August 2026, the watch comes with a qualifying life plan on a 0% APR credit agreement, and you pay between £0 and £10 a month depending on the model and your points, plus an upfront amount of up to £139. Check the live offer before you apply.

Does Vitality life insurance include a smart watch?

In August 2026 Vitality's offer was an Apple Watch, either the Series 11 or the SE 3, with a qualifying life plan; the Apple Watch Ultra was not included. Models change, so see which watches are offered now.

Do I need Vitality Plus to get the watch on a life plan?

Yes, on Vitality's wording as archived in August 2026, the life plan has to carry Vitality Plus benefits, which cost £5.50 per adult per month on top of the premium.

Can both of us get a watch on a joint life plan?

No. Only one Apple Watch is available across the adults on a joint plan, and a partner who wants their own needs a separate qualifying plan in their name.

What if my watch payment falls to £0 in a month?

That happens when you earn 160 activity points in the month. On Vitality's table, each month's payment is set by the points earned in that month.

Will cancelling Vitality life insurance stop the watch payments?

Not on the wording Vitality published in August 2026: cancel the plan after the 14-day cooling-off period and before the final watch payment is due, and the Novuna credit agreement carries on under its own terms. For cancelling inside that period, check Vitality's Apple Watch terms first.

Is the watch worth taking if I only want basic life cover?

That depends on whether the minimum premium and the Plus fee suit you. Looking at cover and price first, then the watch, keeps the choice about protection.
