Beagle Street life insurance is a range of term policies sold under the Beagle Street name: level or decreasing cover, for one person or two, with critical illness as an option. This page sets out what Beagle Street's own documents say about its cover, limits, pricing and claims. It gives no price and no verdict.
Send your details through this page's form and an FCA-authorised broker will phone you back to talk through quotes. There is no charge.
Who is Beagle Street, and who is behind its policies?
Beagle Street's policy summary (April 2026, print code 31589 003 04.2026) says the cover is issued by Family Assurance Friendly Society Limited, which trades under the Beagle Street name. It gives the society's firm reference number as 110067 and says it is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority.
Beagle Street's benefits terms page (read 20 October 2026) splits by quote date. For quotes obtained from 19 September 2023, it names that society, registered under the Friendly Societies Act 1992, as the firm behind the brand. For quotes obtained before that date, it says "Beagle Street is a trading name of BGL Direct Life Limited". If your policy is older, the firm named on your own policy documents is the one to deal with.
The summary also says "You did not receive advice or a recommendation from us", so the type and amount of cover are the buyer's own choice.
What policies does Beagle Street offer?
The April 2026 summary lists three covers, each paying one sum assured:
| Cover | What the summary says it pays |
|---|---|
| Life Insurance | The sum assured if you die or are diagnosed with a terminal illness; cover stops when a claim is paid or the policy reaches its expiry date. |
| Life Insurance with Critical Illness | The sum assured if you die or are diagnosed with either a terminal illness or a critical illness. |
| Additional Critical Illness | The sum assured if you are diagnosed with a critical illness. It can be chosen only when you buy Life Insurance, and comes as a separate policy next to it. |
Two of these covers pay on a terminal illness diagnosis. If that is something you or someone close to you is facing, Marie Curie's support line is 0800 090 2309.
Beagle Street's life insurance page (read 20 October 2026) says some customers choose a policy "just to cover their mortgage", which it calls decreasing term, while others leave a cash sum for their children, which it calls level term. The summary puts the choice as keeping the sum assured the same or reducing it "in line with any ongoing but reducing debts", and warns that it models decreasing policies on an interest rate of 6%: if a mortgage rate is higher and a claim is made, the payout might not clear the debt (see decreasing term cover).
The policy terms on Beagle Street's site carry the print code 31590 002 04.2025, which dates them to April 2025, a year older than the summary, so the version issued with your own policy is the one that applies. Under those terms, joint Life Insurance covers two people until the first dies or is diagnosed with a terminal illness (with critical illness, until the first of those or a critical illness), and a death claim on a joint policy not in trust is paid to the surviving policyholder. One full claim payment is made per policy, single or joint. Comparing joint with two single policies is covered in joint or individual cover.
An optional Children's Critical Illness benefit can be added to either critical illness cover. It pays the lower of 25% of your sum assured or £25,000, for a child aged between 10 days and their 18th birthday who survives at least 10 days after diagnosis. For the adult cover, the April 2025 terms say it complies with the ABI Guide to Minimum Standards for Critical Illness Cover, and the conditions covered are listed in the policy documents. Our critical illness guide explains how definitions work.
What age, cover and term limits does Beagle Street state?
The limits below are from the April 2026 policy summary, which is Beagle Street's direct document. The cover amounts are overall maximums, and the summary says the age of the oldest person covered may lower the maximum offered. For joint policies the age limits apply to the oldest life.
| Cover | Age to apply | Maximum sum assured | Term | Cover must stop before the oldest person's |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Life Insurance | 18 to 77 | £750,000 | 5 to 40 years | 90th birthday |
| Life Insurance with Critical Illness | 18 to 64 | £300,000 | 5 to 40 years | 80th birthday |
| Additional Critical Illness | 18 to 64 | £300,000 | 5 to 40 years | 80th birthday |
The April 2025 terms require buyers to be permanent UK residents. A terminal illness claim is paid if you are expected to live less than 12 months, but not if there is a known cure or Beagle Street's Appointed Medical Officer considers life expectancy to be more than 12 months. A critical illness claim needs survival for at least 10 days after diagnosis.
You can cancel within 30 days of the policy start date and have premiums paid refunded; after that, no refund is made. The policy has no cash-in value.
A death claim is not paid in the first 12 months of the policy if the cause of death is suicide or intentional and serious self-injury, and no claim is paid for a cause listed in the policy exclusions on your own Policy Schedule. If you are struggling or having thoughts of suicide, Samaritans can be called free on 116 123 at any time, from any phone.
Life cover will generally be paid free of UK income tax and capital gains tax but may be subject to inheritance tax, and may not be if the plan is written in trust (see whether a payout is taxable). Beagle Street's benefits terms say a policy assigned as security on a loan, such as a mortgage, cannot be put in trust; putting a policy in trust explains the options.
Which of these limits would apply at your age, and for the cover you have in mind, is something a broker can go through with you, once you pass your details on through this page's form.
How does Beagle Street describe its pricing?
No premium is stated here, because Beagle Street's documents give none that applies to everyone. The summary says what you pay depends on "Your age, health and lifestyle information completed within your application, job and if you have ever smoked", the sum assured, optional benefits and type of cover, how long the cover lasts, and any medical history from your doctor.
Beagle Street's life insurance page adds its own view on direction: "Level term policies are usually more expensive, as the pay-out stays the same. Decreasing policies tend to be cheaper". It says a joint policy "is typically cheaper than two separate policies", though only one claim can be made on it. These are Beagle Street's statements about its own products, not a comparison with other insurers.
On premium changes, Beagle Street's critical illness page says premiums are "guaranteed to never increase (unless you request to change your policy)". The April 2025 terms are fuller: premiums "shouldn't change" unless the application information was incomplete, inaccurate or untrue, you ask to change the policy, or a claim is paid under the Additional Critical Illness benefit. The summary also notes that the real value of the sum assured is always changing because of inflation.
What do customers say about Beagle Street?
Beagle Street's customer reviews page (read 20 October 2026) states:
Rated “Excellent” on Trustpilot with 4,539 reviews
That is Beagle Street's own undated marketing statement about its Trustpilot rating. Ratings change as reviews are added, so Trustpilot itself shows the current score and the individual reviews. The summary sets out the formal route if something goes wrong: complain to Beagle Street first, then, if you are not satisfied, the Financial Ombudsman Service, which the terms describe as a free, independent organisation. The policy is also covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS), which may pay compensation if the society cannot meet its obligations under the policy.
How do Beagle Street claims work, and what does it publish about them?
Beagle Street's claims page (read 20 October 2026) gives a free claims line on 0800 072 9831, and the summary lists claims@beaglestreet.com. The page says that once a claim has been validated it will be paid "in 2-3 working days of approval, once all checks have been completed", and that Beagle Street may need further information from the GP and consultants, which may take time. A death claim may also need probate; if an approved claim is delayed by probate it can provide a £5,000 advance toward the funeral. Its companions service offers access to a personal nurse during a claim.
The same claims page gives two figures from the society that underwrites its policies: it "in 2025 paid out 99.5% of all protection claims", and elsewhere on the page "in 2024 paid out 99.8% of all protection claims". Both cover all of the society's protection claims, so neither is a figure for Beagle Street life policies alone, a comparison with other insurers or a rating. Claims figures from the industry are in life insurance claims statistics, and what happens when a claim is refused is in when an insurer can refuse to pay.
Frequently asked questions
Is Beagle Street a good life insurance company?
This page gives no verdict. It reports Beagle Street's documents on cover, limits and claims, and its own statement of a Trustpilot rating. How well those terms suit you depends on your circumstances, and insurers compared sets other firms beside it.
How does Beagle Street compare with Virgin Money life insurance?
Each insurer's limits, exclusions and definitions are in its own policy documents, so a fair comparison puts them side by side for your age, cover amount and term. A broker can go through that with you. Other firms' pages, such as Legal & General, Aviva and Vitality, show what each document says.
What phone numbers does Beagle Street list?
Its life insurance page lists 0800 048 0480 for quotes. The policy summary gives 0800 980 8801 for questions and 0800 072 9831 for claims.
Is Beagle Street on the FCA register?
The policy summary gives the firm reference number as 110067, which you can search on the Financial Conduct Authority's Financial Services Register to see the firm's current status.
Does Beagle Street offer a free will?
The benefits terms offer a free simple will to people who buy a policy, with conditions: the policy must be active and paid up to date, and Beagle Street can recover the cost if the policy is cancelled within six months of taking up the offer. A simple will, in those terms, leaves an estate to a maximum of six beneficiaries without trusts or tax planning. A joint policy is eligible for one simple will or a joint mirror will.
Should you want Beagle Street's terms weighed against other insurers' for your age and circumstances, an FCA-authorised broker can do that, and asking through this page's form costs nothing.
