Aviva bought AIG Life UK in April 2024, so a life insurance policy that began with AIG is now held by Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited. In short, Aviva life insurance from AIG has its own help area on Aviva's site, separate from MyAviva. Unsure what your own AIG-issued policy now says? Give your name and number on this page's form, then an FCA-authorised broker calls you to go through it at no charge.

Who owns AIG Life UK now?

Aviva plc's announcement, published on 9 April 2024, said it had completed the acquisition of AIG Life Limited ("AIG Life UK") from Corebridge Financial, Inc, a quoted subsidiary of American International Group, Inc, for consideration of £453m. The company was renamed once, and from 1 January 2026 its policies sit with a different Aviva company. Aviva says AIG Life Limited rebranded as Aviva Protection UK Limited on 17 February 2025 and then became Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited from 1 January 2026.

That is why your paperwork may name any of three companies. Aviva's help page for these customers describes a policy "through Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited, which was issued by Aviva Protection UK Limited or AIG Life Limited". Life insurance from AIG in the UK, in other words, is now Aviva's to administer, even where the letters on your policy still say AIG. The wider group's own life products are covered on Aviva life insurance in the UK, and the other insurers are laid out on insurers compared.

Where do you manage an old AIG Life policy?

Not on MyAviva. The same Aviva page says you "can’t view these policies on MyAviva", so the usual Aviva online account is the wrong place to look. Use the former-AIG area of Aviva's site, which lists help for policy documents in a more helpful format and for asking for a payment freeze. If you are trying to work out which Aviva policy you have in the first place, how to find your Aviva life insurance policy covers the Aviva side.

For anything you would rather say on the phone, Aviva lists an "AIG Life Insurance customer service" line, 0345 600 6820. The hours it prints are Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 6:00pm and Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm, with the line closed on Saturday, Sunday and UK bank holidays. Its email address for questions is enquiries@protection.aviva.com. Both were checked on 27 October 2026, so look again before relying on them.

Writing instead goes to the Customer services team, Aviva, PO Box 12010, Harlow, CM20 9LG. Put in your full name, date of birth and postcode (the one Aviva would have on record if you have moved), and your policy number, which Aviva says is "usually a ‘P’ followed by nine numbers".

Some of these customers also have Aviva Smart Health, a service for physical and mental wellbeing. Aviva says it is "available to select Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited customers", that your policy pack will tell you if you have it, and that, as it is not part of your insurance contract, it can be changed or withdrawn at any time.

How do you claim on a policy that was issued by AIG Life?

Aviva keeps a separate claims page for these policies, and its main life insurance claims page points to it for "life insurance bought through AIG Life". If you are dealing with a death, take that page at your own pace. Its claim types include death and critical or terminal illness, for personal and business cover alike. It describes "experienced, UK-based claims handlers" who "are here to guide you through". Claims under an employer's group scheme go through the employer or the scheme's financial adviser instead.

Which documents a death claim asks for on an AIG-issued policy can be raised with the broker when they phone you back. For the Aviva side of the process, making an Aviva life insurance bereavement claim has the step-by-step version, and a policy bought under the British Seniors brand has its own page, British Seniors life insurance claims.

It helps to have the policy number to hand before you ring, because Aviva asks for it in any letter or email too.

What about AIG life insurance trust forms?

Aviva's AIG claim page lists "More detail about what trusts are" among its extra help. If your policy was written in trust, the people who can claim may be the trustees rather than the estate, which is why a trust matters at claim time. The forms Aviva uses for its own policies are on the Aviva life insurance trust form page. For the general steps, see how to put a life insurance policy in trust.

Whether that form fits an older AIG policy is worth putting to the broker who calls you back.

Can you cancel an AIG Life policy?

Yes. Aviva's contact page for these policies says to use its customer service details to tell it you plan to cancel, so ring 0345 600 6820 or write to the address above with your policy number. The same page warns that cancelling ends the cover itself, Aviva Smart Health if your policy has it, and any other extras the policy includes. Check your own policy documents for how premiums stop and whether anything is repaid, because that depends on the policy, and it can turn on whether the policy is held in trust: cancelling a policy that is already in trust sets out why.

Cancelling is not the only way out. If the premiums are the problem, the same contact page lists other options: you could delay a monthly payment or reduce your cover amount, either short-term or permanently. If an adviser arranged the policy, Aviva suggests speaking to them first. If the cover no longer suits you, how to switch life insurance companies explains how to avoid being left without cover while you change. Cancelling an Aviva life insurance policy covers Aviva's own policies.

Is there an AIG over 50s plan, and what can you buy now?

AIG Life no longer sells cover in the UK under its own name, because the business now belongs to Aviva. An over-50s plan issued by AIG Life is handled like any other former AIG policy, through the customer service line and claims page above. For new cover, Aviva sells under its own name. Aviva over 50 life insurance covers that range. If you are not sure whether an old plan is over-50s cover or another type, the broker on the free call can help you make sense of the papers.

Frequently asked questions

Is AIG Life the same company as Aviva now?

Not by name, but the business is. Aviva bought AIG Life Limited, which was renamed in 2025 and then became Aviva Life & Pensions UK Limited from 1 January 2026.

What is the AIG Life number for UK customers?

Aviva prints 0345 600 6820 for AIG Life Insurance customer service and 0345 600 6813 for complaints, both open Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 6:00pm and Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm. The numbers were read on 27 October 2026.

Can I see an AIG life policy on MyAviva?

No. Aviva's help page says these policies cannot be viewed on MyAviva.

Where do I send a complaint about an AIG-issued policy?

Aviva gives a complaints team at the same PO Box 12010 address in Harlow, plus complaints@protection.aviva.com. It asks for the same four details as other letters.

Do I need to do anything because the company name changed?

Names on letters may differ from the name you remember, as the timeline above shows. If a letter leaves you unsure which company it comes from, quote the policy number when you ring the customer service line and ask Aviva to confirm who holds the policy now.

If an old AIG policy is still in the family and nobody is sure what it is, a quiet word with a broker can be a place to start, with no hurry, through the page's form.
